Valheim is a Viking adventure and survival craft game that has been on the radar since its early-access launch. It has sold over 5 million copies in the first five weeks of being released and players and reviewers can’t stop praising the game. There is a lot of things that one can do in Valheim which makes the game so interacting and fun. Valheim focusses on knowledge as a part of survival in the Norse mythology-inspired world, meaning players have to learn their surroundings in order to survive and progress further in the game.
These things usually require collectables and resources that are scattered around the different biomes, one of such items is metals. Metals like iron, bronze, silver, etc are very vital in the game as they are required to make some of the most important pieces of equipment in the game, armour and weapons. The higher type of metal usually crafts into stronger and lethal weapons, which are useful in the game to defeat stronger opponents.
What is Black Metal in Valheim?
Black Metal is the final and high tier metal that comes after the discovery of iron, bronze and silver in the game. It is a heavy bar of dark metal that is found in the game and unlike its other counterparts, it can be used only to craft weapons for attack and defence but can’t be forged into any wearable armour. But it is still a stronger metal and can be competently used in making better weapons.
Where to find Black Metal?
Black metal can be found in the Plains biome. Navigate there and try locating ‘Fuling’ villages, it usually is made of structures with wood and leather. Finding such a village in the plains biome won’t be that hard but gathering some black metal from there is the hard part. If you get too close to one of such villages, the fulings will attack you. Be prepared with some heavy gear on both weapons and armour before approaching.
Once you have successfully cleared the village out, search and loot the resources from the village. You will find some chests scattered here and there and opening some will generally set you up with black metal scraps and other useful stuff.
Uses of Black Metal in Valheim
You can’t directly use the black metal scraps to craft items in the game and neither can you smelt it at a normal smelter. You would need to build a blast furnace close to an artisan table on solid ground. Blast furnace works as a smelter especially for black metal and you can put black metal with required coal in it and the finished metal will be dropped out.

- 20 Stone
- 10 Iron
- 5 Surtling cores
Once you have smelted the black metal scraps, you will be able to craft a variety of weapons in the game. These are:
- Blackmetal Knife
- Blackmetal Sword
- Blackmetal Axe
- Blackmetal Atgeir
- Black metal Sheild
- Black metal tower shield
These are top tier weapons for attack and defence and will be very helpful in your survival quest in Valheim.
